Calling all hikers, runners & mountain bikers…
Table Rock - The most popular trail in Boise & for good reason. After about 1.8 miles up, the large cross greets you with stunning views of the city. I think it’s best at sunrise, but the climb is worth it any time of day. A great hike for anyone & everyone in the family with multiple different routes you can take to get up or make it longer. No shade, so pack your hats, sunscreen & water. BONUS = If you’re looking for something quick + more moderate, check out the Eagle Rock hike to the left of the Table Rock parking lot.
Bogus Basin Loops - Located at Bogus Basin, this trail system has so many different loops you can do. The ski mountain turns into a summer oasis for hikers, runners & mountain bikers with cooler temperatures + lush trails. A little bit of a longer drive, but once you’re up there, there’s so much to explore including: the Mountain Coaster, Bike Park, Chairlift Rides + more!
Hawkins Range Reserve - About 7 miles N of Boise, this is one of our newer trails. There are two directional trails offered: 0.6 miles (Harrow Trail) & 5.7 miles (Hawkins Loop). It opened for the season on May 1st & dogs are to be kept on leash until June 15 to protect elk calving in the area. A little closer to town, this is one of my favorites with the rolling hills & easy terrain.
Military Reserve- This trail system is located right next to downtown & offers so many differet routes. Lots of sections are off-leash for dogs + there is a dog park & bike park at the main parking lot. Some favorites routes of mine are: Shane’s Loop, Watchman & 3 Bears.
Polecat Reserve - One of the cooler trails I’ve found & it is located in NW Boise. 7 miles of mainly single-track trails, it is such a fun mid-distance hike or trail run. Mountain bikers & dogs are all over the trail too, but dogs must be kept on leash.
Lucky Peak - This trail doesn’t even feel like you’re in Boise. The trees are so lush & the views are beautiful at the top. Make sure to pack your snacks & water though because it is a long + steep 13ish miles depending on what way you take!
Stack Rock - Up Bogus Basin Rd, this trail is probably Boise’s most popular long + challenging hike. Lots of shade & large rocks along the trail. It is about 11 miles & 1300 ft. elevation gain.
Cervidae Peak - This one is a doozy & one of my all-time favorites. Only 4.5 miles but steep, steep, steep. Parking is right past Lucky Peak Lake & it is part of the ‘grand slam’ hiking challenge. Dogs are welcome & can be off-leash in most areas.
Harrison Hollow - Probably the most dog-friendly trail system. It features a lot of shorter trails in a large area. Right outside of downtown & the North End this is s a very popular place for families & dogs. Some short, steep climbs that provide beautiful views of the city too!
Camel’s Back / Hull’s Gulch - Camel’s Back Park has a few short trails + a stone staircase that is a fun, but challenging climb for the whole family. Behind it, you enter into the Hulls Gulch area which has ample trails for all users & leads you to hundreds of miles of routes to take. BONUS = The Curlew Connection Trail just opened & links Hulls to Rocky Canyon!
